Honestly, trad publishers just aren’t that interested in bard stories. We ran into similar issues because our prologue featured a Bard. Glad you went the self publishing route because bards are cool!
Thank you! That's good to know. I think they are missing out though because bards generally are complex and interesting characters with a wide variety of wants and goals.
They go based on what has worked in the past and their perception of what the market wants, but they also shape what the market wants by choosing what to put out. It’s a weird cycle. Our story needed to be written in 3rd person omniscient POV so there was no way it would ever fly in modern trad publishing. Even our editor that we funded tried to rewrite it because of “POV issues” 😬

It is a weird cycle. 3rd person omniscient is tough kudos to you for sticking with your gut and telling the story how you want to tell it.
