How’s it going?
I’m Rob Mortell, a father, husband, and aspiring author. You know, just an average American from a small town in Illinois, where I cultivated a passion for fantastical worlds beyond cornfields. I’ve been writing fantasy stories for most of my life and finally decided to share one with the world.
Stories Have Power is a newsletter about writing, my publishing journey, and, my serial novel Tales & Treasure.
Tales & Treasure - A disgraced bard emerges from isolation, vowing to find the story that will restore his name and earn the recognition that he craves. This narrative is filled with mystery, magic, and unexpected alliances. In the land of Emre, bards are revered; their stories have answers; their stories have influence; their stories have power.
Why?
I’ll be honest the traditional publishing route has not gone well. 65 agent rejections and counting. Maybe I don’t know how to write a query letter, or maybe the story is too long for a first novel (125,000 words). Either way, I think I have a story worth telling, especially for anyone who likes thrilling character-driven novels in a traditional fantasy setting.
What to expect?
One chapter every Tuesdsy and Thursday as well as updates into my journey as an aspiring author.
Paid subscribers will get posts showcasing my editing process, Q&A sessions, bonus short stories set in the same world, and more.
Here’s a sample from the first chapter:
Welcome to Emre!
If you made it this far thank you. I just want to write cool fantasy stories with interesting characters that maybe I can share with my kids someday, but for now, I’m excited to begin this journey with you!
Honestly, trad publishers just aren’t that interested in bard stories. We ran into similar issues because our prologue featured a Bard. Glad you went the self publishing route because bards are cool!
